Congratulations to Team Ontario and Team Toronto on a most successful National Summer Games last week in
London, Ontario. Although the hot weather lead to a number of delays with the outdoor sports, namely athletics, softball and soccer everything went smoothly. Opening Ceremonies at the TD Waterhouse Stadium were spectacular with an array of coloured uniforms representing teams from across the Country.
The Flame of Hope arrived via. helicopter and was escorted around the stadium by members of London Police Service Tactical Team! The one and only Mr. Don Cherry made a surprise appearance at Opening Ceremonies and caused much excitement in the stands of the stadium! Dr. Frank Hayden addressed hundreds of athletes, friends and family members and declared the games open … “Let The Games Begin” … and so they did, followed by 4 days of competition, excitement and many medals being won along the way.
Once again, congratulations to everyone on a job well done … athletes, coaches, mission staff and for all the support of friends and family members who travelled to the great City of
London where everyone received a warm and friendly welcome. Last, but not least to the London Police Service under the guidance of Chief Murray Faulkner and the men and women of the Service – thank you for all that you do to continued to support Special Olympics Ontario through the Law Enforcement Torch Run. You and many other continue to keep the Flame of Hope burning bright and we can’t thank you enough.
